Homestead National Monument

Indian Cave State Park
With over 3,000 acres of rugged acres bordering the Missouri River, Indian Cave is a pristine area for camping, hiking, picnicking, backpacking, and nature and wilderness activities. Located 30 miles east of Tecumseh on 64E, Indian Cave Park offers 22 miles of trails and outdoor attractions for all ages. There is also about 16 miles of horse trails.

Nearby Hunting
Several State Wildlife Management Areas are located near Tecumseh. They offer abundant acres for hunting deer, pheasant, quail, turkey, dove, rabbit and squirrel. Hickory Ridge, Osage, and Twin Oaks Wildlife Management Areas are all located in Johnson County and total almost 2,500 acres of public hunting ground. State Hunting Permits are required.

Wirth Brothers Lake
Located just 5 miles north and 1 mile west of Tecumseh, Wirth Brothers Lake offers ample tent camping, fishing access, picnic areas, drinking water, grills and fire rings. The sand beach, swimming area, sand volleyball court and playground provide plenty of activities for the whole family. A new archery range is now open to the public and includes several handicapped accessible targets.

Steamboat Trace Trail
Located approximately 30 miles east of Tecumseh, Steamboat Trace, which has been designated by the National Park Service as part of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail, consists of 21 miles of abandoned railroad corridor paralleling the Missouri River. The Trail corridor is open year-round, except during firearm deer hunting seasons, for hiking and bicycling. No horses or motorized vehicles allowed.

Cedar Creek Pottery
Cedar Creek Pottery features the work of Ervin Dixon who makes and displays salt-glazed stoneware at his refurbished 1895 Lutheran Church just 30 miles west of Tecumseh on Hwy 136 and 3/4 mile south on 80th Rd, 37639 S 80th Rd, Beatrice, NE 68310. Filley Stone Barn
Filley Stone Barn was built in 1874. This National Register Site is the largest bank limestone barn in Nebraska. The barn stands today as a tribute to those early farmers and their fortitude. Living history demonstrations are held at the barn in October. Special group tours available. The barn may be viewed from the outside at any time. The barn is located at 13282 East Scott Road, 2 miles south of Filley, Nebraska.
